Grace Wright-Arora

PhD candidate in Geography and the Environment

I am an environmental social scientist working towards a PhD at the University of Oxford, funded by the ESRC Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership (profile). My work work lies at the intersection of climate and social justice research, focusing on urban areas in the Latin American region, using qualitative and participatory methods. I am currently based at ICTA-UAB in Barcelona, undertaking a visiting researcher position with Dr Angelos Varvarousis as part of the European Research Council-funded REAL project. My PhD investigates water insecurity and infrastructural futures in Mexico City, looking at discourses of climate apocalypse and alternative water infrastructures.

I previously conducted research on UK water infrastructure politics and river pollution for my MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance.

My research is collaborative, working with community partners on the ground, and uses theoretical frameworks to enhance environmental justice for human and nonhuman groups most affected by the climate crisis. While in Mexico, I am working with the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
